The Madagascar Herons (or Humblot’s Herons) (Ardea humbloti) occur naturally in Madagascar, as well as being found on the Comoro Islands and Mayotte. In Madagarscar, they are common to the north and west coasts as well as Lake Alaotra.
This heron is endangered within their natural range. it is estimated that only 1,000 and 3,000 have survived, and the numbers are continuing to decline. The major threat to their existance is hunting and the loss of forest habitat.
