The Victoria Crowned Pigeons, Goura victoria, are one of three species of crowned pigeons.
Distribution
They occur naturally in the lowland forests of northern New Guinea and surrounding islands.
Decription
These large pigeons measure up to 29 inches (74cm) in length. Their plumage is mostly bluish-grey with elegant blue lace-like crests, maroon chests and reddish eyes. They are most easily recognized by the unique white tips on their crests.
Diet / Feeding
They mostly feed on fruits, seeds and invertebrates (including insects).
Status
These naturally tame birds are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Threats to their existence include habitat destruction and hunting for thier plumes and meat.
