Woodstars
Woodstars are small – mostly South American – hummingbirds that belong to the Trochilidae family.
Listing of Species
- Amethyst Woodstars (Calliphlox amethystina) – Range: South America east of the Andes from Venezuela to northern Argentina
- Bahama Woodstar (Calliphlox evelynae) – Range: Bahamas
- Chilean Woodstar (Eulidia yarrellii) – Range: Northernmost Chile and possibly southern Peru
- Esmeraldas Woodstar (Chaetocercus berlepschi) – Range: Ecuador
- Gorgeted Woodstar (Chaetocercus heliodor) – Range: Colombia and Venezuela; and at a few locations in Ecuador.
- Little Woodstar (Chaetocercus bombus) – Range: Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
- Magenta-throated Woodstar / Hummingbird (Calliphlox bryantae) – Range: Costa Rica and western Panama.
Purple-collared Woodstar (Myrtis fanny) – Range: Ecuador and Peru- Purple-throated Woodstar (Calliphlox mitchellii) – Range: Panama (Darién) through western Colombia (on both slopes of the west Andes) to western Ecuador (south to El Oro and Loja).
- Rufous-shafted Woodstar (Chaetocercus jourdanii) – Range: Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela
- Santa Marta Woodstar (Chaetocercus astreans) – Range: Colombia
- Slender-tailed Woodstar (Microstilbon burmeisteri) – Range: Argentina and Bolivia
- White-bellied Woodstar (Chaetocercus mulsant) – Range: Central and Eastern Andes from Columbia, patchily south through Ecuador and Peru, to central Bolivia (Yungas of Cochabamba).
