We're happy to help
As an industry leader in sustainability, Brilliant Earth upholds uncommonly high ethical and environmental standards, from sourcing and manufacturing to responsible practices in our showrooms. One of our core sustainability principles is circularity – we focus on using ethically sourced materials, diamonds, gemstones, and precious metals that can be redesigned and reused again and again, as part of an ongoing life cycle. Offering the opportunity to recycle jewelry is a crucial part of circularity, and we’re proud to give our customers the ability to participate.
Brilliant Earth provides recycling programs for our jewelry and your personal items – see below for how to easily recycle your jewelry and get credit for a Brilliant Earth purchase.
1. Drop your jewelry off at one of our showrooms or ship directly to the Brilliant Earth distribution center. To ship to the distribution center, please contact us and we will send you a shipping label and instructions.
2. Within ~48 hours of the distribution center receiving the jewelry, you will be contacted with its calculated weight and confirmation of the Brilliant Earth credit amount.
3. You will be able to apply the credit during the checkout process if shopping online, or you can apply the credit in-store by showing the credit confirmation email.
Please note, Brilliant Earth does not accept silver (only gold and platinum are accepted), and credit is not given for diamonds or gemstones.
(Includes items outside of the return policy window)
1. Drop off your Brilliant Earth jewelry at one of our showrooms or ship directly to the Brilliant Earth distribution center. To ship to the distribution center, please contact us and we will send you a shipping label and instructions. If brought into a showroom, instant credit for the exchange will apply. If shipped to the distribution center, the typical timeline for a credit to be processed is 48 hours from when it is received.
2. Select a new item you’d like to exchange for your recycled Brilliant Earth item. If the new item is the same or lesser value of the Brilliant Earth product being recycled, we apply a 50% discount. If the new item is of greater value to the Brilliant Earth product being recycled, we apply a 50% discount of the value of the product being recycled.
3. The credit for recycling Brilliant Earth items must be applied at that time. No credit will be stored on file. The credit cannot be applied to past purchases.
What happens after we receive your jewelry to be recycled? First, your jewelry is sent to a precious metal refinery for re-refining and circulation back into the precious metals supply chain.
Brilliant Earth uses 96% recycled gold and 97% silver from precious metal refiners with either Responsible Jewellery Council's Chain of Custody Certification or SCS Recycled Content Certification. Learn more about metal recycling at Brilliant Earth.
Brilliant Earth does not use dirty gold and is deeply committed to using recycled gold as well as Fairmined certified gold, which is ethically and sustainably sourced. Our VP of Responsible Sourcing and Sustainability explains the ramifications of dirty gold and mining:
“The global demand for gold remains strong, even as mining regulations in many countries remain outdated and, in many cases, weak or weakly enforced. Fueled by this global demand for gold, miners are ever dependent on fast and inexpensive mining methods, often using destructive processes and hazardous chemicals such as mercury – which causes severe environmental degradation on a scale that impacts us globally. One of the most pressing examples of this is in the Peruvian Amazon -- a densely forested region otherwise known as the Earth's lungs due to its importance in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Here, mercury used in gold mining harms the miners and their families, and causes deforestation which has ripple effects across our planet and our global waterways – and even our seafood. These examples make it clear: Dirty gold mining isn't an isolated issue."

Our responsibly sourced wood ring boxes are designed to be as iconic as the jewelry they hold. They are crafted with wood sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests, which are responsibly managed to protect forests for future generations.
We continuously strive to reduce our packaging as part of our continued commitment to circularity and reducing our environmental footprint.
How to recycle your Brilliant Earth wood jewelry box:
1. Stop by any of our showrooms during business hours to drop off your Brilliant Earth wood jewelry boxes for reuse.
2. Brilliant Earth wood jewelry boxes should look like new and be in good condition for reuse (no dents, chips, marks or scuffs).
When you return your Brilliant Earth wooden jewelry box, it is inspected for quality before being used alongside other packaging for the next customer. Other paper-based boxes should be recycled according to your local recycling guidelines.
"If you're not using your Brilliant Earth wood jewelry box, you can feel good about taking the extra step to return it to us. We reuse the box by using it for another customer purchase."
